History of the Square of Arms
The most famous square in Kotor is certainly the Arms Square.
Soldiers who defended and guarded the city, in the past gathered in this square and equipped themselves with weapons. The most famous defense of the city lasted 3 days, when the Turkish pirate Hajrudin Barbarossa attacked Kotor in 1539.

What must be seen on the Square of Weapons?
It is always full of tourists and locals whose visit to Kotor would be incomplete without visiting its important attractions.
Sea Gate (West Gate) – is the main entrance to the Old Town of Kotor. The gate was built in the 16th century and is the largest of the three city gates.
Clock tower – it was built in the 17th century. It was built partly in the Baroque style, while the northern and eastern facades were built in the Gothic style. In front of the tower is a reconstructed medieval column.
Duke’s Palace – it was built in the 17th century. It is located on the west side of the square.
St. Ivan Fortress
When visiting Kotor, you should definitely visit the St. Ivan fortress. It is located above the ramparts of Kotor’s Old Town. The ascent to the fortress of St. Ivan, or as locals prefer to call – San Giovanni, begins with serpentines from the eastern part of old town, which climb to the very top of the fortress at 280 meters above sea level. Before you start climbing to the fortress, we recommend taking the camera. The views of Kotor and the bay of Boka that appear when you reach the top of the fortress, cannot be described, but must be experienced and then write it down.
